We are embarking on a 14-week journey reading through a fascinating book of the Bible called Judges. The type of writing is a narrative. A story. Or better, a compilation of stories. To be honest, if you want a book that makes you feel happy and one where the good guys win… well, Judges will disappoint you. Even the so-called heroes in the story—Samson, Gideon, Barak, and others—are not as heroic as we might think. So in many ways, it is a sad reading with a few bright spots. But if you want to understand the brokenness in this world AND at the same time, discover the mercy and faithfulness of God, you will appreciate Judges. For the lessons we will encounter are powerful and eternal. And those lessons will ultimately point us to the Gospel of Jesus.
