The Book of Lamentations is a book of five poems, reflecting on the brutal siege and destruction of Jerusalem and the exile of the survivors to Babylon. The book does not try to explain suffering, justify it, or even condemn it. Rather its only purpose is to express suffering and express it before God, even as Israel could hear no response from God amidst the ruins. As we walk through the book of Lamentations may we find both a full expression of lament and a hunger for healing that is only provided in Jesus Christ.
