The book of Jonah is about more than a big fish.
Jonah, called to preach repentance to a city of people he despised, runs from God. God had a fish swallow Jonah to wake him up. After Jonah’s freedom and even his deep repentance, Jonah is plagued with anger over the mercy God has for his enemies.
Jonah serves as a mirror for those of us called by God who are still confused when He loves those we find unlovable. God’s mercy swallows up our pride, hard-heartedness, and tribalism. God continues to save those who are far from Him.
